We are looking for a Research & Development Manager for an immediate start to reinforce our R&D department. This is a permanent full-time position based in our office in Belgium. 

As R&D Manager, you will ensure the overall success of projects in R&D with a focus on the development of active principles into products. This position requires communication and technical skills to enable oversight of multiple, related projects and/or complex R&D programs, to achieve project goals and on-time delivery in alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

Your responsibilities:

•Management of (biotechnological) research & development programs including internal and/or consortium work packages – planning, timeline, milestones, and reporting.

•Development of scientific project plans, identifying and analysing risks, constraints, and resource requirements, and building and assessing time estimates in line with the current research strategy.

•Coordination and assurance of successful on-time completion of cross-functional development projects that may span functions, organizations, geographic regions, and cultures.

•Building and maintaining a network of relevant scientific stakeholders.

•Supporting the development of new research activities, balancing internal research activities with external partners such as universities, and providing support in writing and applying for research grants to conduct these activities.

•Management of a team of scientific staff (coaching, assessment, and training of research assistants, fostering a positive working atmosphere, organizing meetings).

•Supporting control of project scope for assigned development projects and ensuring correct and regular reporting on project progression to senior management.

•Ensuring preparation and maintenance of documentation for R&D design and development administration and procedures, in accordance with relevant SOPs, GxP, and ISO standards, including writing or coordinating the writing of SOPs and work instructions, and ensuring electronic lab books and records are up to date and reviewed.

•Drafting reports related to RDI projects, submitting articles in peer-reviewed journals, and creating presentations for conferences.

•Providing support in the company-wide innovation management processes, which may include projects outside the direct scope of the function.

•Participating in research portfolio road mapping exercises and research & development concept phases.

•Willingness to gain specific technical knowledge through contacts with internal and external stakeholders and through literature, patents, and seminars.


Your qualifications & experience:

•You are graduated (PhD) in Life Sciences (e.g., Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, pharmaceutical-oriented engineering) or comparable scientific background.

•You have profound knowledge of pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals, galenics, biokinetics, bioavailability, stability, and related scientific processes.

•You have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in conducting multidisciplinary product development

•You have a track record of successfully applying for RDI funding in the field of Healthcare and Life Sciences.

•Your knowledge of MDR legislation will considered as an asset.

•You are driven by digital and data management techniques to drive scientific progress.

•You will demonstrate a capacity for organisation, parallel thinking, speed, attention to quality and detail.

•You are in English both written and spoken. Other languages such as Dutch, German, or French are an asset.
